Couples Therapy

2040549059Can we make this work?

Many couples ask themselves this question. You love your partner, but lately, you have argued about everything. It’s hard to talk to each other. You feel they’re not listening to your feelings, and physical and emotional intimacy differ. Even though you have been together for a long time, things have become problematic.

Does any of this sound familiar? If so, the two of you are experiencing issues that can challenge your relationship.

Some issues couples encounter involve managing money, raising kids, not spending enough time together, or dealing with each other’s families.

Explaining your feelings to your partner and not having them understand is tiring. Having the same fights gets old because you never resolve the issues. This can make either of you think, “I don’t know how much longer I can do this. Where do I go to find help?”

Couples therapy offers a space to find resolution.

In couples therapy, we don’t pick sides or point fingers at who’s wrong or right. All individuals make decisions based on what they believe is best for themselves. Those decisions come from your experience, fear, and the desire to protect yourself.

It makes sense that we often make decisions that are in our best interest as individuals. But when you’re in a relationship, you also must consider what’s best for the relationship. In couples therapy, I’ll never tell you that you’re wrong. Still, I will challenge you to look at your behaviors and thought processes and ask yourself, “If I want a healthy and happy relationship, are the things I’m doing helping the relationship or hurting it?”

We will work on developing a balance between honoring yourself and honoring your partner. As a team, we will work on communication, emotional intimacy, respect and empathy, and sexual intimacy.

Together, you and your partner will learn new skills and find new ways to honor and love one another as you deserve.
